Catch-all domains and shared inboxes (Risky)
What catch-all and role addresses are, why we can't confirm them, and when it's fine to send to them.
Updated October 7, 2026
The Risky group is mostly made up of two kinds of address. A few more are addresses where the mail server gave a mixed answer.
Catch-all domains
Some company domains are set up to accept email for any address, even ones that don't exist. Send to anything@company.com and the server says "yes, got it".
That means we can't tell a real mailbox from a made-up one on that domain. Some of these addresses are real people. Some will quietly go nowhere, or bounce later.
Shared inboxes
These are addresses like info@, sales@, support@ or admin@. They usually reach a real inbox, but it belongs to a team, not one person. They tend to get fewer opens and more spam complaints, and some email platforms watch them closely.
Should I send to them?
It depends on where the addresses came from:
- People who signed up or bought from you: usually fine to include. They know who you are.
- Bought, scraped or very old lists: leave them out. They carry the most risk.
To include them, use Build your clean list on your report and switch on Catch-all domains, Shared inboxes or Mixed answers. See Building and downloading your clean list.
